Let’s face it, people are going to talk about You BUT it’s not your job to necessarily listen.
You’ve been there, I know I have…BUT if it’s ever crossed your mind:

How to deal with HATERS?

Here Are 5 tips That Can Turn Haters Inside/Out

1. Sit Pretty With The Emotion:

You’re human, it’s going to bother you and that’s okay. I’m all about being positive but HELLO…we have to deal with our emotions (the good, the bad and the ugly). And I highly recommend you toss, turn and twirl with the emotion for an hour, a day or a week if you fancy BUT that’s it. Process and put your big girl panties on and move on.

I remember the first time someone said something NASTY and NOT TRUE about Ungenita Prevost. I cried like Porsha Williams on Real Housewives of Atlanta. I was embarrassed and it was #NotCute. Yet, a catalyst for me to “Stop Worrying About What Other People Think”.

“If you are really effective at what you do, 95% of the things said about you will be negative.” ~Scott Boras

2. Be A #WOA (Woman Of Action)

There are 7 BILLION PEOPLE on Earth. Don’t waste 7 years, 7 months, 7 weeks, 7 hours, 7 minutes or even 7 seconds worrying about PEOPLE that don’t get you. Use that energy to unleash your best work. Keep your eye on the vision. Keeping doing you EVERYDAY.

Don’t stop pursuing your passion or the work that you’re meant to do in the world because someone said something nasty or wrote something nasty about you.
Don’t even give haters the satisfaction. Instead of reacting, stay in action.

If  you watch any Celebrity News show you’ll see, they only talk about #HotTopics.

3. See The GLAM Lessons & Learn from Haters

You’re probably thinking what can I learn from people that can be so hateful and vindictive. Stay with me on this one. We are (All) a work in progress and there’s always an opportunity for growth. So look for the Glamorous Lesson.

If someone attacked your business. This is another moment I’d recommend you sit pretty and ask yourself the following question. Is it time for a Business Makeover? If it was a client interaction, you may walk away with better discernment. Every client is not for you and your product/service will not please all the people. Choose your business associates wisely.

If someone attacked your craft. Perhaps, adding more practice time to your Google Calendar is not a bad idea. If you’re saying to yourself I should have did it this way. The goal here is to practice enough to get the results you’re looking for and when you know you’re on point, haters can’t take you out of the game.

I love the basketball analogy, look at Kobe Bryant. He’s amazing to watch with 7 seconds on the clock. Hundreds of people are in his ear BUT he’s able to block out the noise and focus on his shot. No one can take Kobe out of the game.

Another point, if people say negative things or post negative comments about how you look, what you wear or what you weigh. This is the time to stand firm in your essence and style. You know what’s beautiful about you, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. #FlauntIt

“Trying to get everyone to like you is a sign of mediocrity.” Colin Powell

4. Forgive The Haters

I’m not one for walking around with anger and wearing animosity. Yes, call this my Mother Teresa moment but here’s the deal. When people say things or post negative comments.
It’s not about you, it’s about them.

I shall repeat.

It’s not about you, it’s about them. Sad to say but there are a lot of miserable people in the world and their only station in life is to bring other people down.

They hide behind computer screens, they make anonymous posts and can create an alias in a New York minute because they don’t have the strength or the tenacity to do something remarkable with their own life. It’s easier for them to put every one else down. It feels safe.

When you fill your pretty little head with that. You’ll be able to detach yourself a lot faster PLUS you’ll walk around with your head held high and pretty peaceful too.

There is only one way to avoid criticism

5. Know Who Your Fanemies Are

Yes, I just made up that word:

Fans + Enemies = Fanemies

Okay, what do I mean here. There are people that you might think are your fans but on a core level they’re not. So they become allies with haters and perpetuate the negative words or comments. Often time they thrive on gossip and negative posts and will bring it back to you on a silver platter gleaming with excitement.

You know I heard this about you.
You know I read that about you.

If someone is for you and knows your character inside/out they will never allow or align with contradictory information or public innuendo.

The minute they step to you, ask yourself, is this person really trying to help me or hurt me. Immediately, smile and share all the fabulous things you’re up to and then redirect, why does what someone say or write about me bother you? You’ll maintain your power and not veer off in a negative direction.

Freedom of speech in the United States is protected by the First Amendment. We don’t have to buy everything that people say or write.

Before I put a bow on this post. I have an extra special share from Steven Pressfield author of The War of Art and writer of the novel/film The Legend of Bagger Vance with Will Smith, Matt Damon and Charlize Theron.

“When we see others beginning to live their authentic selves, it drives us crazy if we have not lived out our own” ~ Steven Pressfield

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed writing it. I’d love for you to share your .25 cents with me in the comments section below.

  1. This is a very poorly written article, that actually supports the ‘hater culture’. Just because someone had a different opinion doesn’t make him a hater. Furthermore, if someone is a hater, which means he hates you for absolutely no reason, you can’t learn anything from him, since there is no actual reason for the hate. Grow up.
