What if we focused on opportunities vs making excuses?
The minute we say “I can’t” or “I haven”t” we must look at the root cause of the answer.
Is it the ego stopping us?
Is it negative self talk?
Is it a time management issue?
Self sabotage?
Fear of failure (or success)?
Excuses aren’t empowering!
Here’s a reframe.
If someone asks, if you’ve finished a project (and the answer is NO).
Reply 1: No, I’m sorry I haven’t but it’s on the calendar (commit to a date).
This keeps you from going down the rabbit whole of excuses and making amateur moves.
Pros make quick decisions (you’ve heard it before).
“Successful people make their decisions quickly and change their minds slowly. Failures make their decisions slowly and change their minds quickly.”
When you’re bogged down with excuses it diminishes your self worth and self belief.
The guilt and shame intensifies. It causes internal confusion.
Excuses lead to lack of clarity and uncertainty.
You start to question yourself and others start to question you!
“She doesn’t know what she wants.”
Again, not empowering!
Reply 2: No, I’ve changed my mind and I’m not interested in X anymore.
Firm! You don’t have to be the YES! GIRL!
Both are powerful and will garner respect.
You’re either taking action or standing in your truth!
“Woman of Action”
You’re either following through on your commitments or making a POWER MOVE in another direction!
On another note.
It’s perfectly acceptable to put your feet on the table if you’re wearing red stilettos.
