What can we learn from Elizabeth Holmes?

I didn’t spend hours watching Court TV. I watched a few clips online and am still wrapping my head around the technology.

Guilty or NOT!

As a woman in a leadership position, it’s hard to see another woman fall from grace.

It’s sad.

It doesn’t feel good.

I have empathy for this woman.

She was on top of the world. At 37, she achieved what most female founders dream about EVERY-NIGHT.

To birth a unicorn and be sworn into “The Billionaire Boys Club” in Silicon Valley.

Personally, I never liked the photos of Elizabeth Holmes “mocking” Steve Jobs Signature look.

She could have taken a page out of Marissa Mayer’s book.

The Oscar de la Renta–obsessed, computer-programming Google/Yahoo Executive who demolished old-fashioned oppositions of beauty and brains ~ women and science ~ chic and geek.

Marissa graced the pages of Vogue magazine wearing a blue Michael Kors dress and Yves Saint Laurent STILETTOS.

As Silicon Valley’s most prominent woman,
she traded in her “Tech work clothes” and embraced her “girly girl” persona.

Marissa PI$$ED off a lot of people.

“How dare she do that?”

She made a strong statement and for those of us who love exercising our feminine power and earning power. We hit the share button and her photos went viral.

I’ll get over the Steve Jobs “turtleneck mockery” but the pit in my stomach for Feminine Biases will take some time.

What can we learn from Elizabeth Holmes?

  1. Model A Research Queen
Every week I ask women a series of questions (many have a difficult time answering). Why? Because they have yet to do their research. They don’t really understand THEIR market, industry trends, demographics, psychographics etc. You need to have your finger on the pulse of your category. If you want to mitigate risks, do your research.

  2. Don’t Be A Smarty Pants
It’s easy to fall into the “I Can Do It All” trap. You can do it but you don’t know it ALL. Align with people who will tell you the truth and give HONEST FEEDBACK. It might hurt your feelings but it will save you a lot of years and in some cases tears.

  3. Take The Masculine Mask Off
Often times women feel like they have to morph into a man to be taken seriously in business.

    IT NEVER WORKS!

    “Take the masculine mask off!”

  4. Category of ONE
Most women have a difficult time owning who they are and subsequently have low self worth. You are born WORTHY. Yes! You can increase your value but don’t confuse it with worthiness. Remember the phrase L’Oréal has been instilling in us for years.

    You’re worth it”.

  5. STOP Modeling “Ms. Popular”
Elizabeth loved modeling Steve Job but she forgot a very important accessory in his repertoire.

If you want to be “liked” go sell ice cream. Don’t be a leader.

Mr. Jobs’ Contrarian Business Style garnered critics on a daily basis.

AFTER BEING FIRED FROM APPLE + PUBLICLY HUMILIATED HE STILL CHANGED THE WORLD.

Aren’t you glad Steve Jobs‘ sole focus wasn’t TO BE LIKED?

I AM …

As I type this email from my iPhone XR. I’m also a MAC girl!

If 2022 is the year to connect with THE RIGHT PEOPLE and drive humanity forward. Let’s talk.

It’s time for a new generation of icons and game changers who are actually changing the world and not just taking up space.
